A 1-Day Conference

Relational Development with Gestalt Group Therapy

Presented by: Peter Cole, LCSW, CGP and Daisy Reese, LCSW, CGP

Course Description:

In this workshop we will explore the theory and practice of a relational approach to Gestalt Group Therapy (GGT). GGT is an interactive, process oriented approach that places emphasis on group members’ capacity for both self-activation and intimate connection. The relational gestalt approach promotes a dialogical relationship between the group leader and group members in which the therapist works from a position of authenticity to promote both individual and group development.

The relational gestalt approach sees emotional development as occurring in connection with others, and our focus in this workshop will be on demonstrating how we promote relationality in GGT. We will integrate theory and practice with live demonstration groups and theoretical lecture/discussion.

Group therapists who practice from all theoretical orientations will find much in this workshop enrich their group therapy skills. Gestalt therapists who wish to enhance their group therapy skills will also find this workshop to be richly rewarding.

Attendees will:

  1. Be able to identify Gestalt therapy's three founders.
  2. Be able to define Relational Development in GGT.
  3. Be able to name three levels of intervention utilized by the GGT leader and why these levels of intervention are employed.
  4. Be able to define and explain the significance of honoring "Mulitiple Narratives" in GGT.
